Wherever you are in your money journey I want you to know it is the perfect place for you. So often we make ourselves wrong for not having our financial Sh*t together, but we bring our financial history with us and often have to overcome our upbringing before we can accept financial success and before we can work on financial skills like setting budgets and putting together debt repayment plans.
We are constantly comparing ourselves to others and wishing we had the things that our friends and neighbors had and feel bad that we haven’t been able to reach their level of success. We compare our homes, our careers, how “successful” or how “good” with money we are to our friends, family, peers, and colleagues, and we find ourselves lacking. When you find yourself in those vulnerable moments, when your inner critic whispers that they are ahead and you are falling behind it’s time to take action.
No matter what your inner critic says, no matter how old you are. No matter how long you’ve been doing your own personal money work. No matter how much money you do or do not make. You are unique. You come with your own strengths, challenges, experiences, and dreams and you will have to find your own road to financial peace of mind.
When you are feeling ashamed or worry that you are making too little money for your needs and feeling like you’ll never be able to get it together, this is when devotion is needed.
I’m talking devotion to yourself.
The definition of devotion is: loyalty and love or care for someone or something. a religious exercise or practice other than the regular worship of a congregation, the act of devoting or the quality of being devoted, strong love, affection, or dedication.
We bring that devotion to our relationships with others and we need to be devoted to ourselves and our dreams as well. The definition says it’s an exercise or practice and takes dedication. And so, we must dedicate ourselves to our financial growth and take good care of the money we do have. Clean up any messes we have made.
During these times it’s important to honor who you are and make a commitment to take care of yourself. Faith is needed in yourself and the universe and it could be time to seek out some help. Your feelings of discomfort, anxiety and fear are telling you that you need to take some action to overcome the shortcomings you perceive yourself to have so that you can begin to feel proud of yourself and can trust yourself to provide comfort and support for yourself.
The place to begin is taking stock of where you are currently at and facing up to the problems and shortcomings that you currently feel you have. You need to do this without judgement if you can.
