Money Coaching is the equivalent of having a personal trainer to help you improve your relationship with money and learn how to manage it more wisely. Just like with a personal trainer you will have someone showing you what to do. A money coach will support you in sticking to the plan so you can achieve your goals and make the impossible real.

Money coaching is not about forcing yourself to conform to a budget.

It is about forgiving yourself for your past mistakes and learning to love yourself more. It is a process of self—care because if you feel deprived it is more likely that you will binge with your money just as you would if you were on a diet.

Your confidence will rise; you will feel more capable of taking on what previously seemed overwhelming to you. It really can change your life. You will finally be in control of your money

The Money Coaching Process

Everyone’s experiences and issues with money are unique, and so the process of money coaching will be different for everyone. It is not a quick fix. No real change happens overnight. It includes exploring your thoughts and feelings at the same time as learning new skills to help you manage your money.

For most clients, the process includes the following steps:


Gather Information

Talk about the specifics of your situation. Discuss what obstacles you are currently facing.

Identify Your Goals

Discuss your biggest dreams and vision for your life without editing them.

Take off the Blinders and see What Your Current Financial Reality is

This step includes tracking your income and expenses to see the truth of the situation. We will also look at those expenses that happen irregularly so we can include those in your plans.

Explore Past Money Beliefs and Behaviors

We will look to see what you were taught about money from your parents, teachers, and community members. Then determine if those beliefs are serving you and if not choose to think new thoughts.

Create a Plan

We will create spending plans monthly since each month you need different things. We will also look at what your needs and wants are and you will learn the difference between the two.

Eliminate Debt if Necessary

Create a plan for eliminating debt and never needing to go into debt again.

Tackle Under Earning

Review your work history to see if you have been accepting less than you deserve and then put a plan in place to increase your income.

Learning to Forgive Past Mistakes and Begin to Trust Yourself with Money Again

The process requires putting your past behind you and being willing to change how you see yourself from a person who has been careless or unconscious with money to one who can be counted on to make wise financial decisions.

Because we will set up an accountability relationship, you’ll be motivated to pursue your goals and achieve them. It’s hard, in fact very hard to stay stuck in your old patterns and life habits when you’re regularly encouraged to pay attention to what you really want, and when you make promises to someone else to do the required work.

Money coaching can be done with individuals, couples and small business owners.This work can be done in-person if you live in the Chicago area or remotely using Zoom. Coaching sessions can be booked individually or by making a commitment to a three- or six-month program meeting twice per month. This is a more cost-effective option and will ensure that you stick with it long enough to see results.
