Money Coaching is a mutual commitment.
Money coaching can help you with both the practical and emotional aspects of money.
Ever had an impulse to get fit? Ever join a gym at the start of a year and then a few months later stop going?
But instead, if you hired a personal trainer and committed to a certain number of training sessions, you’re much more likely to follow through. Your goal becomes more realistic because you’ve set up a support structure and made a commitment to achieve it.
Money Coaching is the equivalent of having a personal trainer to help you improve your relationship with money and learn how to manage it more wisely. Just like with a personal trainer you will have someone showing you what to do. A money coach will support you in sticking to the plan so you can achieve your goals and make the impossible real.
Money coaching is not about forcing yourself to conform to a budget.
It is about forgiving yourself for your past mistakes and learning to love yourself more. It is a process of self—care because if you feel deprived it is more likely that you will binge with your money just as you would if you were on a diet.
Your confidence will rise; you will feel more capable of taking on what previously seemed overwhelming to you. It really can change your life. You will finally be in control of your money
For most people, money is an area of stress and uncertainty, no matter how much money they make.
“We want to buy a house but have no idea how to save for the down payment”
“I make a good living but as soon as my paycheck comes in, I pay my bills and there is hardly any money left when I’m done. Where does all my money go?”
“I keep getting out of debt only to find myself right back in again a few months later”
“I don’t tell my spouse about the money I spend because I am afraid, he/she will judge me. We never even talk about money anymore”
You can be more confident about your ability to manage your money and have increased peace of mind. Money coaching will help you:
- Gain clarity and understanding about your current financial situation.
- Plan for the things you want in life.
- Get clear about what you value.
- Develop a plan to get out of debt without making you feel deprived in the process.
- Overcome feeling shame, guilt, and overwhelm about your money.
- Gain the courage to ask to be paid what you truly deserve.
During the money coaching process, you will gain clarity about what you truly want in your life, and the skills and support to succeed.
The Money Coaching Process
Everyone’s experiences and issues with money are unique, and so the process of money coaching will be different for everyone. It is not a quick fix. No real change happens overnight. It includes exploring your thoughts and feelings at the same time as learning new skills to help you manage your money.
For most clients, the process includes the following steps:
Talk about the specifics of your situation. Discuss what obstacles you are currently facing.
Identify Your Goals
Discuss your biggest dreams and vision for your life without editing them.
Take off the Blinders and see What Your Current Financial Reality is
This step includes tracking your income and expenses to see the truth of the situation. We will also look at those expenses that happen irregularly so we can include those in your plans.
Explore Past Money Beliefs and Behaviors
We will look to see what you were taught about money from your parents, teachers, and community members. Then determine if those beliefs are serving you and if not choose to think new thoughts.
Create a Plan
We will create spending plans monthly since each month you need different things. We will also look at what your needs and wants are and you will learn the difference between the two.
Eliminate Debt if Necessary
Create a plan for eliminating debt and never needing to go into debt again.
Tackle Under Earning
Review your work history to see if you have been accepting less than you deserve and then put a plan in place to increase your income.
Learning to Forgive Past Mistakes and Begin to Trust Yourself with Money Again
The process requires putting your past behind you and being willing to change how you see yourself from a person who has been careless or unconscious with money to one who can be counted on to make wise financial decisions.
Take Control and Develop Peace of Mind
By creating a healthier relationship with money on several different levels – practical, emotional, and spiritual – you’ll feel a new sense of peace of mind. You’ll know exactly where you stand with your money and the things you need to do to reach your goals.
Because we will set up an accountability relationship, you’ll be motivated to pursue your goals and achieve them. It’s hard, in fact very hard to stay stuck in your old patterns and life habits when you’re regularly encouraged to pay attention to what you really want, and when you make promises to someone else to do the required work.
Money Coaching is for you if:
- You are sick and tired of struggling or feeling like you are in a fog in regard to your money.
- You are ready to look at the financial choices you have been making and make some real changes.
- You have been afraid to even look at your bank statements to see where things stand but feel that with some support you can tackle the problem.
- You are willing to commit some time and money to improving your situation.
- You know that you are making less money than others in your field and want some support in changing that.
- You are starting a new relationship and want to make sure you are starting out on the right financial footing.
- You have a business and you want to make sure that it succeeds.
Money coaching can be done with individuals, couples and small business owners. This work can be done in-person if you live in the Chicago area or remotely using Zoom. Coaching sessions can be booked individually or by making a commitment to a three- or six-month program meeting twice per month. This is a more cost-effective option and will ensure that you stick with it long enough to see results.
It’s time to take control of your money.
Certified Money and Business Coach
I think of myself more as a self-love coach than as a money coach. I help my clients see their value, so they come to believe they are worthy of more. Sure, I also teach them to make spending plans and how to get out of debt and save. More importantly, I help them to see that by taking care of their money they can better take care of themselves and the people they love.
Self-love? What does that have to do with managing money and financial success, you may ask?
Kind Words from My Clients
“I have been working with Sheryl for over 3 years now. Prior to working with her, I did not understand the value of financial planning and monthly budgeting. The software program she typically uses Money Minder is very user friendly. Sheryl is very compassionate and understanding of one’s needs. She has gone above and
beyond in helping me get my finances in check. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to improve their financial health!”
